PAPUA New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) president John Kapi Natto has cleared the air on the acquittals for Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited’s (KPHL) K1 million sponsorship of last season’s National Soccer League (NSL).
Prior to the start of last season, KPHL announced a three-year K3 million sponsorship, with K1 million appropriated per season.
Kapi Natto said as far as PNGFA was concerned, an audit had already been done.
“Kumul Petroleum went through it, found some gaps and reported back to us,” he said.
“It was basically okay.
“They understood where we went wrong but they want to see that the NSL management is complying in terms of finance, administration and competition.
“We are grateful to Kumul Petroleum for their support.
“They identified some of those areas we needed to improve on so they’ve been working with the management of NSL and PNGFA.
“From this moment, we are working together. They want the competition to continue because football is a global game. It is big so they don’t want to pull out.”
Kapi Natto said KPHL had agreed to continue its sponsorship of the country’s premier football competition.
When The National asked why the top-four sides from last season were yet to receive their prize money, Kapi Natto said: “The clubs were not paid because of the errors that we had in the last season.
“We couldn’t collect everything we wanted from other sponsors.
“Kumul Petroleum is aware of that and we’ve made it our priority to collect those funds.”
