FORMER Papua New Guinea international and one-time SP Hunter Adam Korave scored a try to help Laumas edge Central Dabaris Development 12-10 at Moresby South Stadium yesterday.
Dabaris centre Robert Nana opened the scoring in the first half with an unconverted try in the final-round fixture of the Southern Super League National Gaming Control Board Cup.
But Laumas responded through experienced halfback Junior Belo who sent prop Adam Korave over for a converted try to lead 6-4.
A sleek backline move saw winger Lega Batia cross over for another Dabaris try and Nana added the extras for a 10-4 lead.
Winger Yomo Yakopa rescued Laumas when he crossed over to snatch victory with a converted try.
Dabaris coach Moses Matuka told The National that he remained upbeat despite the loss.
“I have a young squad and to make the top-six is a challenge,” he said of his fifth-placed Dabaris.
“I always challenge them to work harder and improve after every game.”
Competition manager Indy Verena said the initiative, in its inaugural season, had unearthed many talented players who were capable of joining the Digicel Cup.
“Only the top-six teams will advance to the finals which kick off on Jan 8,” he said.
Meanwhile, Port Moresby Vipers Academy claimed the minor premiership after they beat Gulf Isou Development 22-10.
The top-six teams are Vipers, Moresby South Blacks, Laumas, Port Moresby Suburban Ducks, Dabaris and Isou.
