DETERIORATING roads in the Kiunga rural local level government  has led to queries regarding K13 million meant for their repair and upgrade.

Of the total, K9 million was meant for machinery and K4 million for work.

Kiunga Rural LLG president James Donald said there was a great need for the Kiunga Nomad Road by people of East Awin, Pari and Nomad, besides the refugees who had settled along the road at Iowara station and Komokpin camp.

“How long should my people continue to suffer and be denied basic goods and services,” Donald asked.

“My people are risking their lives walking to Kiunga for basic goods and services and sleeping along the road for three or four nights.”

He called on the Works Department of Western to explain to the people of Nomad, Pari, Iowara and East Awin about the money allocated to upgrade the road.

He said he was frustrated since the road work was never done.

“The millions of kina worth of machines are sitting idle in the bush, rusting away,” he said.

He called on Governor Ati Wabiro and North Fly MP Boka Kondra to help investigate the money.

Donald said the Sweep Task Force team should investigate.

“These road contractors want to gain wealth while the road still needs to improve,” Donald said.
