Leaders must not meddle in New Ireland’s politics, affairs

The National, Monday April 18th, 2016

I WISH to express my views about the launch of an oil palm project in Namatanai district last week as well as my disgust about the criticism leveled at New Ireland leaders by Higher Education Minister Malakai Tabar.

Firstly, most New Irelanders welcome this project primarily as a means to open up a very remote part of the province and indeed Namatanai district.

Although it is a “politically motivated” project in preparation for the 2017 national election, it is nonetheless a project that will benefit the people of New Ireland.

Political parties will come to campaign for the election, go away and forget the people for the next five years.

However, the people of Konoagil will not be going anywhere but stay put where their ancestors have lived for generations.

Secondly, I demand that Minister Tabar apologise to the people of New Ireland for his unprofessional and unethical statement and disrespect for the people and leaders of New Ireland.

We appreciated that he was one of the official guests during the launch but he should not meddle with New Ireland’s affairs but concentrate on his efforts in his Gazelle electorate of East New Britain.

I am sure his voters in the Gazelle electorate would like him to do more for them instead of meddling in New Ireland’s development affairs and politics.

As for National Alliance leader Patrick Pruiatch, please clean up the mess in Madang and East and West Sepik first.

Pruaitch also needs to plan to take back his Momase people who have been enjoying the benefits of the services that the New Ireland leaders have given them such as free and subsidised education and free healthcare.
