Let’s unite against war, promote peace

THE world is battling war and violence and deadly conflict are tearing up communities around the world.
War destroys communities and families and often disrupts the development of the social and economic fabric of nations.
The effects of war include long-term physical and psychological harm to children and adults, as well as reduction in material and human capital.
The effects of war are widely spread and can be either long or short-term.
Soldiers experience war differently than civilians, although both suffer in times of war.
Women and children suffer unspeakable atrocities in particular.
In the past decade, about two million of those killed in armed conflicts were children.
The widespread trauma caused by these atrocities and suffering of civilians is another legacy of these conflicts.
Present-day internal wars usually take a larger toll on civilians than state wars.
This is due to the increasing trend where combatants use civilians as shields.
The most notable current conflicts are Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan and Ukraine.
The world should be united and ensure that conflicts are stopped in these countries.
