Local WHP league to host women’s finals

WOMEN are now embracing rugby league which was dominated by the men over the years.
Avi Settlers Rugby League Association in Western Highlands will be hosting their women’s grand final on Sunday.
Association president Gibson Kandapol said it was the first time to introduce a women’s competition that attracted eight teams – four in the B and four in the A grades. He said Warapen would meet Omben in both the B and A grade finals this weekend.
Kandapol said the winners would walk away with a shield and K5,000 in prizemoney.
Avi women’s league treasurer Wakua Daniel said financial support was lacking from business organizations and individuals in the province. She said the season started last August.
Daniel said she was happy to see women participating in rugby league.
