Look after Mt Hagen

Letters

MT HAGEN is being changed dramatically through the construction of a four-lane road through the heart of the city.
However, the biggest problem we face here is management and leadership.
An example is the four-lane road running through Kaiwe Market, which is used as a vendor zone.
Even after the Mt Hagen Market was opened a few weeks ago by the city council, people are buying and selling on the footpaths at Kaiwe Market.
The city is taken over by thugs and street vendors.
There are no proper bus stops and people use the front of shopping centres as bus stops.
There are no rubbish bins.
People litter wherever they wish to.
There are no public toilets.
I wonder where people have disposed their wastes over the last 20 years.
The four-lane road will not improve the city’s beauty after the construction is complete.
If the authorities cannot provide a better environment, the Western Highlands people should protect the city at all costs.
