THE Madang government has confirmed its procurement committee to approve contracts for service delivery, according to an official.
The committee was sworn-in yesterday in Port Moresby by Magistrate Rosie Johnson and National Procurement Commission chief executive Simon Bole.
“You can now conduct board meetings and procure projects for the country in Madang,” Bole told the committee members.
The committee: Acting administrator Markus Kachau, deputy administrator Paul Amera, Works manager Henry Rakuasi and finance manager Helen Kakuasi.
According to Bole, Madang was the 13th province out of 22 to get its procurement committee while 37 districts out of 89 got their committees approved earlier.
Bole said the provincial procurement committees had the power to deal with contracts worth K5 million and below.
“Every projects that you want to procure must be advertised,” he said.
“Advertise them in the two dailies – The National and Post Courier.”
Kachau told The National that the Madang government would restore confidence and normalcy in the public service after continuous political and administration scuffles and public service disorders.
“Our focus is on infrastructure, health, education and law and order,” he said.
