Maipakai’s plans will not get us anywhere

The National, Thursday 11th April, 2013

 Kikori MP Mark Maipakai

has been quiet since winning his third term.

Two years ago, he engaged officers from the Office of Rural Development (ORD) but we have not seen any services or development projects in Kikori, Baimuru and Ihu sub-districts.

Maipakai has been planning for the past 10 years but nothing has been implemented.

The airstrips in Baimuru, Ihu and Kikori remained close and we cannot travel or send our cargoes by air.

There are no district administration offices in Baimuru, Ihu and Kikori.

BSP’s rural banking programme has yet to reach us.

Cargo ships berth on riverbanks because there are no wharves or jetties.

The mv Baimuru and mv Ihu supposedly purchased three years ago to serve the people have yet to arrive.

Health and education services have deteriorated.

Maipakai has not sponsored our students in tertiary institutions except those close to him.

Education and developing human resource are not his priorities.

We are still waiting for Baimuru High School to be built.

Baimuru policemen operate from a container and there is no police station in Ihu.

Feeder roads in Baimuru are waterlogged and overgrown with tall grass.

The people of Baimuru, Ihu and Kikori do not have access to radio stations, daily papers or EMTV.

We live in isolation from the rest of PNG.

I hope the member will prove critics wrong, including me, in the coming months.
