Make Lae great again

Letters

FOR the past five years, the Lae City Urban Local Level Government has been moving backwards because of poor leadership.
The Lae LLG used to be a well-performing third-tier government.
Lae City LLG, unlike other LLGs, is a money generating LLG and has land, developments and other assets worth millions of kina. The mayor is the political head and the city manager is the administrative head.
Under these two heads we have the engineering, health and the corporate division.
Rubbish collection, road watering, road grading and maintenance, public parks, public toilets, public markets, botanical gardens and city beautification are functions of the Lae City Council.
The once vibrant Lae City Council is no more.
Rubbish collection has vanished, water trucks are no more in existence, road-grading and maintenance no are no more to be seen, Lae City markets are poorly managed, botanical gardens, public parks, and public toilets have either deteriorated or vanished.
Lae City Council has been converted into a milking cow that feeds people who do nothing, rather than providing the services as stipulated by the Lae City Council Act.
Past mayors, as I can remember, was a man who attended to people from 8am to 4pm and someone who hired and fired his section heads when they underperformed; he was a man who served the office of mayor with respect and dignity.
Previous mayors and managers served the city with pride and diligence and during their time the city performed well.
Now, Lae District has taken over the functions of the city through the Lae City Authority Act.
It is time for change now.

Good Luck
Lae, Morobe
