A MAN, 45, charged with molesting an 18-year-old girl two years ago in Port Moresby, is to stand trial in the National Court.
Magistrate Danny Wakikura in a Waigani committal court told David Arua from Oreke village in Kairuku-Hiri, Central on Wednesday that there was enough evidence against him.
“My rulings were based on the police file,” he said.
“Arua will properly defend himself in the trial proper which this court has no power to hear.”
Police alleged that Arua, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol on June 26, 2020, went to the girl’s room and watched her sleeping.
She heard her door open so she opened her eyes and saw Arua watching her, she screamed in fear and he went away.
Arua came back and knocked on the door and asked the girl to give him a canned fish.
In fear of his actions, she got up and brought the canned fish to the door and gave it to him.
He then held the girl’s hand and let the can fall to the ground.
He pulled her towards the verandah, held her tight and molested her.
“He then forced her to sit on the chair and threatened her not to tell anyone after molesting her.
Later that night she told her relatives who called the police who arrested and took Arua to the Family and Sexual Violence Unit office.
He allegedly admitted the offence during the police interview and asked police for mercy and out-of-court settlement.
He was charged with one count of sexual touching.
