THE Mt Hagen District Court has fined a man K800 for various traffic offences.
Magistrate Jacinta Doa ordered that the two other charges Micheal Anis pleaded not guilty to would be decided at a trial on Friday.
Police arrested Anis on Aug 17 in Mt Hagen and charged him with careless and reckless driving causing an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle which has no insurance cover and no road-worthiness certificate, and driving without a licence. He pleaded guilty to all charges except for the cases of careless and reckless driving and driving without a licence.
Anis’ vehicle was involved in an accident with a truck owned at Saint Paul’s section of the Okuk Highway. Police traffic prosecutor Peter Michael said both vehicles were damaged.
Anis told the court that he was driving between 50 and 60km per hour when the accident happened.
He said he had a driver’s licence which was taken by people who searched his pockets. Magistrate Doa fined him K100 for driving under the influence of liquor, K300 each for driving an unregistered and insured vehicle, and K100 for driving a vehicle with no safety sticker.
