A MAN appeared in the Waigani Committal Court last week accused of murdering his former girlfriend.
Alex Manai, 35, from Goilala, Central, was charged with one count of murder.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said that the case was still fresh and police would conduct more investigations and get some more statements from witnesses.
It was alleged that Manai was once in a relationship with Leah John. But when they broke up, she married a man from Madang.
Manai was angry over the situation and was issuing warnings and threats to John to leave her husband.
But she was already married and did not leave her husband.
On Jan 10 John was on her way to the Sabama Market with two of her cousins and an aunt when Manai allegedly jumped out from behind a tree and stabbed her with a knife.
The court heard that her relatives tried to stop him but it was too late. Manai fled.
John fell to the ground and was bleeding. They rushed her to Port Moresby General Hospital where she was confirmed dead.
Manai was apprehended by police on the same day and charged with wilful murder.
