Market construction to continue

Letters

THE proposed market at the junction of Kanage Street joining the Morea-Tobo road is one of 11 mini markets initiated by the Moresby North East MP John Kaupa in the electorate.
Others are at 5 Mile, Yongos, H Hill, ATS, 8 Mile, Bomana, Farea, Bushwara, and vegetables market at 12 Mile and Kinakon, all at the cost of K1 million.
The project was approved by the National Capital District Commission (NCDC) engineering division and vetted by the Department of Implementation and Rural Development, and a reputable contractor was awarded the bid to construct the market.
A 30 per cent mobilisation was paid for the contractor to start work at several locations including 5 Mile.
NCDC physical planning division decided to stop the project to see how they can address the safety of the vendors and people doing business in the market.
There was a meeting on Aug 10 between NCDC and Moresby North East management and those concerns were addressed.
We agreed that as soon as the NCDC engineering division came up with a safety requirement, they would proceed with 5 Mile and Yongos.
Other mini markets will continue as proposed.
The contractor was never paid this money unlike in previous projects. We apply strict compliance to project management in the electorate.
We appreciate your critics as they are needed to strengthen our service delivery.
We are appealing to those wish to know more about such issues to visit our website: www.moresbynotheast.com.pg.
