Maru wants more schools for ‘quality’ education

NATIONAL Planning Minister Richard Maru says he is focused on providing better-quality education for children in the Yangoru -Sausia electorate of East Sepik.
“We are now enrolling many children and so we must ensure that they have a quality education also,” he said.
Maru, who is also the Yangoru-Sausia MP, launched the new Numbo High School at Handra Primary School yesterday in the Numbo local-level government area.
Handra Primary now has grade 3 to 8 classes with about 200 students. Next year it will have classes up to grade 10.
Maru said that construction of a new building for four classrooms with four teachers’ houses would be made at a cost of about K500,000 from his district development authority funds.
“Work will start (today) and will be completed by February next year and we are expected to enrol new grade 9 students by next year.
“Tomorrow, I will launch the new Wingei High school in the West Yangoru LLG.
“It is my aim to have high schools in all these LLGs,” he said.
Maru said that in his first term as the MP from 2012-2017, he concentrated on infrastructural projects like roads, electricity and agro-industrial projects in his electorate.
“Now I will focus on education, not just enrolling large numbers of children due to free education but also providing quality education.”
Numbo LLG president Michael Kombo said that there were nine primary schools in his LLG and the new high school would help enrol grade 8 students.
