WITH two weeks left before the opening of the Intrust Super Cup 2016, the management of the PNG Hunters has placed a temporary ban on media coverage of the team’s preparations.

Coach Michael Marum said  the sanction would allow the management and players to devote their attention in the coming days to the final preparations for the season.

Marum said that the media restriction was only temporary until the start of the season next month.

In a text message, Marum told  The National yesterday that they had a media ban in place.

Marum was supported by trainer Nigel Hukula, who said that the coach had informed the players that media engagements had to be cut back as they were moving into the last weeks of preparations.

Hukula said the public may question the move but it was a decision by the coach, who knew what was best for the team and players.

With the Q-Cup’s opening round on the weekend of March 5-6, in which the Hunters take on the Souths Logan Magpies in an away match, the club has a little over a month to secure a home ground.

Their first home game is in round 3 (March 19-20) against the Tweed Heads Seagulls.

Marum said the Hunters were still in negotiations for a home ground this year.

The team will be vacating the PNG Institute of Public Administration and to another accommodation.
