Mendi backs PNGRFL plans

MENDI Rugby League has acknowledged the plans and motives the new chairman and his team are trying to implement for the development of local rugby leagues throughout PNG.
The league is, therefore, calling on the caretaker administration to make it more viable for the local leagues.
League vice-president Richard Awasa said the local leagues were affiliated to the PNG Rugby Football League but had been ignored and had not benefited from the umbrella body.
“As such, we appreciate the chairman for reviving zone trials and championships to select a side to challenge the bemobile Cup select side,” he said.
Awasa added that the system would enable the rural leagues to market their players who have hidden talents to higher ranks.
He also said there were criticisms raised against Albert Veratau and his administration by Moresby-based fans of the code.
“Let us not drag the supreme coach Adrian Lam into this issue and allow the new team to audit the organisation’s books.” he said.
