YOUTHS in Mendi town, Southern Highlands, are fed up of living in poverty and have decided to be involved in farming to help themselves.

The group of 17 includes four females from Moloma and Tente Two.

The youths are part of Governor William Powi’s mobilisation programme. They have been given K2,000 to potato seedlings and fertilisers.

Powi’s representative Naik Boski parised the group for trying to change and fend for themselves.

Boski said Powi wanted to help youths and the programme was to rehabilitate them.

“Young people are very important because they will have a great impact on development,” he said.

“I’m appealing to others to follow their colleagues in Mendi.”

He said apart from potato farming, young people could also focus on poultry, piggery and vegetable farming.

Moloma and Tente Two youth leader Mathew Nap thanked Powi for the support.

“We have decided to change from our bad ways and do useful things. The mobilisation programme will support many lives,” Nap said.
