GENERAL secretary Dimirit Mileng says the Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) is now headed in the right direction.
Mileng said that when asked by The National about his thoughts on the election at last week’s congress.
“Under our new president John Kapi Natto, we are now moving in the right direction to bring back the pride of soccer in the country,” Mileng said.
“There was a vacancy in the PNGFA presidential position, so the congress elected Kapi Natto to the role.
“We did this to fulfil the requirement of our constitution that needed the presidential office to be occupied.
“If we do not have a president to lead the organisation, then it is a breach of constitution.”
Mileng said Kapi Natto was now in the process of holding meetings with his executives to be briefed on the affairs of the organisation over the last 18 months.
“Once all the discussions are complete, the president will start making public statements,” Mileng said.
Meanwhile, various soccer associations in the country have hailed the uniting of two disputing football factions.
They welcomed Kapi Natto’s election.
“I welcome and commend the presidential election of Kapi Natto, as I believe he will take us back onboard the PNGFA’s National Soccer Leaguer competition, in which we have missed out for the last 10 years,” the Alotau Soccer Association said.
Andrew Henry, president of the Mosa Soccer Association in Kimbe, West New Britain, said it was welcome news for soccer in the country, with Kapi Natto being a passionate and visionary man.
