MINISTER for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Malakai Tabar has condemned the events which resulted in the killing of a student on Saturday night at the University of Technology.
“This is the work of criminal elements and the police are on ground to protect lives of staff and students and public property on campus,” Tabar said in a statement.
Tabar conveyed his sympathies and condolences to the parents and relatives of the student.
“I assure you that the long arm of the law will bring the perpetrators of this murder to justice,” he said.
Tabar said people must change their attitude.
“This is the age of reason and policy contestability in an environment of learning rather than in an environment of tribalism and violence,” he said.
“In the interest of the majority of students, parents and stakeholders, I am directing that law and order is enforced forthwith to secure lives, properties and the freedom of our university communities.”
Tabar assured parents that his department was doing its best to complete the academic year.
