Minister: Joint partnership vital for city’s growth

A COMBINED effort in leadership is needed from all Members of Parliament for the orderly growth of business and the development of the National Capital District, an MP says.
North East MP John Kaupa said this in response to questions about why Port Moresby North West MP Sir Mekere Morauta seem to be working in isolation from his fellow Moresby MPs.
“We are all part of team and that is with the purpose of making our city better,” Kaupa said.
“The development of NCDC as a whole needs all of us to contribute and we are working together for that. I myself and Member for Port Moresby South Justin Tkatchecko including the North West Member Sir Mekere are under the chairmanship of NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
“The development of our city requires cooperation from us and he is not alone but we are all a team and doing this.”
The development of Port Moresby should not be limited by politics, Kaupa said.
He said that plans to develop land for housing along the 9 Mile Gerehu road would have to include Mekere.
He said there is land further along the road that has great economic potential for people in both electorates.
“We got elected by people from our electorates but what we do is for Port Moresby so we need to and are working together for that,” he said.
