PAPUA New Guinea-born Australian mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Adrian Pang is keen to bring in local kickboxer Jonathan Tuhu under his wings.

This is the first time that Pang, the current lightweight (70-kilogram) champion is taking on a local talent and giving the Tuhu the opportunity of a lifetime to be trained at his highly successful Integrated Martial Arts gymnasium in Stafford, Brisbane.

The gym is Australia’s leading centre that trains some of Australia’s best MMA fighters including Australian title winner and Ultimate Fighting Championships competitor Kyle Noke.

The only catch to this impending partnership to be forged is for Tuhu to find his own way there.

Pang yesterday said Tuhu has all the attributes to be a success.

“He’s 22, has no bad habits, is the current World Kickboxing Federation’s inter-continental champion and has an impressive record of eight wins, a draw and a loss,” Pang said.

“I will provide the pathway, Jonathan now needs to prove his worth by finding that pathway.”

“That starts with finding his way down and everything will be provided as a live-in fighter, access to professional strength, boxing, Muy Thai boxing and wrestling coaches.”

Tuhu, from Gembogl (Chimbu) and Karkar Island (Madang) will have opportunities on small shows to start off and if he impresses he may progress to the bigger shows.

Pang put out a call on behalf of his promising prospect for sponsors to come forward and support the young man with his airfares.

Tuhu said the offer by Pang was a dream come true for someone like himself who did not have too many openings in his life on the street.

“I see this as God’s way of giving me the chance to improve my life,” Tuhu said.

He said he had already started in a small way selling flex cards and other small items and hosting small fundraisers where he resides at Four-Mile near the Eda Ranu office.

Tuhu, who currently trains on his own will feature in the Ox & Palm Cup kickboxing eight-man contest on April 26 in Port Moresby.
