MORESBY South MP Justin Tkatchenko presented K25,000 to the grand final winners and runners-up across the Port Moresby South Rugby League’s three divisions last week.
A-Grade champions Koki Eels bagged K10,000 while Vadavada United pocketed K5,000 as runners-up.
In the Under-20 division, champions IPI Eagles claimed K4,000 and the runners-up got K2,000. The women’s division saw Eagles scoop K3,000 and runners-up Gabutu Dragons pocketed K1,500.
Tkatchenko congratulated the winners and runners-up for a strong season.
“Congratulations to Koki Eels, you had a great management and sponsor. You displayed great team work that had brought you victory,” Tkatchenko said.
“You put all the hard work in everything and your hard work has been rewarded with victory. That does not diminish everybody else.
“You all put in a lot of hard work like Koki Eels. But at the end of the day, one has to win and the other has to lose. The best team wins.”
Tkatchenko told the losing teams not to lose hope and give up.
He urged them to learn from their mistakes and come back stronger next season to be top contenders of the competition.
“Learn why you lost and you correct it, and you become the champions next time,” Tkatchenko said.
“Challenge is good. If you are not challenged you won’t be competitive. You become better and competitive only when you are challenged.”
The Moresby South Rugby League competition is sponsored by the MP and it involves clubs from the electorate as well as from other parts of Port Moresby, including North West and North East electorates.
