Mori to look into K3mil yoga training contract

COMMERCE and Industry Minister Wera Mori says he will investigate an allegation that an “unregistered foreign-owned company” had been contracted for K3 million to provide yoga training to Port Moresby residents.
“This company was registered in 2015 prior to my time. So I will enquire with my department and the Investment Promotion Authority and will get to the bottom of how this company was registered and will provide a detailed report to the Parliament.”
Mori was replying to Madang MP Bryan Kramer who alleged that the company had not been registered with the Investment Promotion Authority when awarded the contract. Kramer had claimed that the company was certified on October 30, 2015, but he found a number of irregularities.
He said the principal shareholder of the company had named National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop as a referee.
He urged Mori to find out from the IPA if the company had breached regulations in its certification.
On Tuesday, Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko raised a point of order with acting Speaker Jeffrey Komal to prevent Kramer from questioning the engagement of a yoga instructor by the NCDC.
But Komal allowed Kramer to ask Finance Minister James Marape to clarify if the awarding of the K3 million contract to a foreign-owned company on an annual basis since 2015 had breached the Public Finance Management Act.
