YANGORU-Saussia MP Richard Maru has called on the people in his electorate to put aside their political differences and support him in building a new look district for their children and generations to come.

Maru who is also Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister, said his district must be number one in infrastructure, law and order, education, health and economic development and he needed cooperation from everyone to make it happen.

He was speaking at a reconciliation ceremony at Kusambuk village organised by Peoples National Congress candidate Sam Wafi and his supporters from six council ward areas last Monday.

“Politics is over. Forget about how you voted in the recent election, Maru said

“It is time now we start talking about a new Yangoru-Saussia, a new future for our children and generations to come.

“I made a big sacrifice to leave my old job with a fat pay packet to become a member of parliament because the district had achieved nothing since independence.

“There was money in the district for the last nine years but only a small club of people were eating at the expense of the people of Yangoru-Saussia, resulting in no evidence of money being transformed to tangible development.”

The Kusambuk community, which also missed out on essential services, reconciled with Maru and pledged their support to work with him in achieving change and development in their area.

They presented a pig and garden food to Maru as Wafi shook hands with him and declared his loyalty.

“We all contested the national election to dethrone the sitting member and not against ourselves,” Wafi said.

“I am happy Maru has won and for the first time now in 40 years, we are seeing political stability in our electorate.  “I believe we have voted the right man because he has delivered many projects in just one year and I will support him to continue delivering to the people of Yangoru-Saussia.”

He acknowledged Maru’s initiative to deploy a police mobile squad in the district which had caused a drastic decline in law and order problem thus creating an environment conducive for development.

Maru announced a K10 million highway from Yekimbole to Hanewi which will start this year and committed K150,000 for a four-in-one double classroom for Kusambuk Primary while three other primary schools in the area would receive K100,000 each.
