CHILDREN from Buk bilong Pikinini (BbP) visited the National Museum and Arts Gallery in Port Moresby yesterday as part of their Literacy Week programme.
BbP said, in a statement, that the children were enrolled in its Early Childhood Education (ECE) programme and were studying the importance of the ocean, villages, forests and animals in PNG culture through craft activities and story-telling by parents and officers from the National Museum of PNG.
It said the children would be displaying their stories, which would be added to the BbP learning app so all children across the country could share their culture and customs.
Manager of the museum’s access, education and public programmes, Loretta Hasu, said the PNG National Museum and Arts Gallery was excited to work with partners to bring museum education to schools.
“For 2021, we are excited to partner with Buk Bilong Pikinini, through its literacy week programme, where we will see the museum’s staff visit schools to deliver activities to the different BbP libraries around Port Moresby,” she said.
Hasu said the initiative was part of the ongoing work of the National Museum through its outreach programme.
The outreach programme provides access to the Museum’s collections for people who may find it difficult to visit the museum for reasons that include age and geographical distance.
“Our outreach programmes bring subjects to life through dynamic presentations and project-based, hands-on activities so the children can appreciate PNG culture.”
