THIS is a reply to Ron Madden’s enquiry of Arcturus.

The MV Arcturus was tied up at what was then the PNG maritime department wharf in Madang harbour in the 1970s.

It was never really used for what was intended and received minimal maintenance.

It was offered for sale in the late 1970s and was purchased by a Madang shipping company that stripped it of all machinery and disposed of the hull.

The main engines which were 6L3 Gardners were reconditioned and installed as auxiliary engines in one of the company’s new vessels, these engines are still running today.
