KOIARI Nagavas bounced back from a 6-0 halftime deficit to beat the Suburban team 8-6 in their trial  match at Kone Tigers Rugby League Oval, Waigani on Sunday.

The trial was a chance for both sides to run their teams  ahead of next week’s Southern Zone trials in Kwikila.

Led by former Southern Zone player Momoa Nuana, the Koiari boys never gave up with the rough treatment they received from their host by continuingly putting their bodies on the line.

Halfback Mista Willie and five-eighth Doura Keigen guided the Nagavas backline.

The Port Moresby Suburban side used the match as part of their preparation for the upcoming Southern Zone trials.

President of POM Suburban Billy Aki said the hit out his side got from the Koiari side was more important than the result.

“We were looking to get the boys used to playing as a team, to work on their combinations and that was the purpose of this game. But those Sogeri boys played really well too,” Aki said.

He said the match was also used as a trial for players 2014 Digicel Cup hopeful NCD Suburban Lagatois.

Aki added that similar trials would continue after the Southern Zone matches to ensure, Lagatois have representative from all  leagues in Central.
