FAIRFAX Volleyball Association rookies Nanu Mix are hoping to register their first win in the premier division in Port Moresby this weekend.
Despite losing four games since the start of the season, coach Ula Dogana is optimistic that the team will produce a positive result against Cobra at the Papua New Guinea Education Institute tomorrow.
“We’ve lost by narrow margins in the first four rounds,” he told The National.
“We faced a couple of big teams, including Raukele Dolphins who defeated us 3-2 the previous week.
“The results are a good sign that my players are improving their game.”
Nanu were defeated last week three sets to one by a strong Moukele outfit in the premier division.
Comprised Tauruba youngsters, from Central, they travel to and from the village every weekend for their games.
Dogana said training had been a challenge, but the team were looking forward to improving this weekend.
“My players have been training hard to cope with the standard of the town competition,” he said.
“It’s their first time to play in such a competition, but I keep pushing them to train harder.
“For this weekend, we are focused on key areas of improvement.
“They need to be hard at hitting the ball.
“They also need to be mobile to move around the court for loose balls. We just need to coordinate well to get some good results.”
Meanwhile, Nanu’s Under-21s have registered two wins in the competition and are aiming to continue their form.
“The youngsters have done well in the last few rounds,” Dogana said.
“I expect them to continue playing well.”
