SEVENTEEN volunteer teachers have received some training in early childhood development and bridging schools from Ginigoada in the National Capital District.
Last week’s training was an in-service for teachers, who had missed out on early childhood development and bridging school project, Ginigoada team manager Hoge Baeau said.
The workshop was initiated by her to train the teachers so they could prepare the children for early childhood learning and bridging schools.
The workshop was held at Korobosea over two to three days.
Teachers who attended were from different centres in NCD.
Baeau said of the purpose of the training was to train many volunteer teachers in “ECD or Bris skul pilot project”.
The training covered topics on:

  • Child protection policy;
  • ECD curriculum and programming;
  • importance of ECD;
  • daily routine; and,
  • ECD material production and basic tool of bridging.

The final topic on basic bridging tools was given by bridge coordinator Ashley Gene.
Participant Alice Leeroy, from Children of Light ECD in NCD, was grateful to Ginogoada for the training.
“As a simple woman marketing betel nuts and assisting in the learning centre, I have learnt so much and I now have basic knowledge of teaching little children,’’ she said.
Baeau encouraged them to continue with what they were doing as it was vital in the development of the nation.
Assistant training manager Rodney Graham said participants needed to have better knowledge to develop little children at the early stages of their lives.
‘’The children you teach will become great people in the future so do not give up what you are doing,’’ he said.
