INMATES from Buimo prison in Lae have once again received help, this time from wives of soldiers who attended a convention at Igam Barracks last week.
The prisoners are under the Buimo Correctional Services Institute’s welfare section.
They raised awareness on life in prison during one of their outreach programmes on July 3 to more than 500 wives of soldiers who attended the Sixth Military Wives Convention last week.
President of Igam Barracks Military Wives Helen Tovaboda told The National yesterday the donation was to support those in need.
“During our Military Wives Convention from July 1 to 5, we also had our own needs and we asked business houses for donations,” she said.
“Those who came forward blessed us with many gifts so we decided to share.”
Tovaboda said Panamax Pacific donated a lot of products.
According to marketing coordinator Simonta Simongi, products included Blue Sea Tuna and Mackerel, B29 laundry powder, Anchor Milk products, Softex pads, Softlove diapers, Zap mosquito coils, Waswas soap, Symbol Soy Sauce and Boneeto chocolate drinks.
“We decided to give one carton each of a few of the products to our inmates at Buimo after their awareness outreach to our military wives last Wednesday,” Tovaboda said.
“The inmates blessed us with their words and songs and we wanted to bless them in whatever way we could.”
