MOROBE’s new administrator Bart Ipambonj has warned public servants in Finschhafen to be mindful of their roles or face the consequences.
Ipambonj was a guest at the opening of seven staff houses for nursing officers and national doctors at Braun Memorial Hospital on Saturday.
His visit to the district was the first after his appointment.
“I made a commitment to work with public servants to serve the people,” Ipambonj said.
“I am happy to work with the newly appointed chief executive officer Ricky Possa to run the administration in the district.
“I want to carry out government policies and I want public servants to help me.”
Ipambonj said public servants who were frequenting hotels and bars in Lae doing nothing must get to work immediately.
“If you have not been doing your job, you will be replaced,” he said.
“We have been wasting too much time and there is no quality work.
“We need to restore this public service machinery, get it to where it is supposed to be.
“I will check the quality of your work because checks and balances will be carried out.”
Meanwhile, MP Reinbo Paita has called on the provincial administration to recruit public servants who work.
“We need to remove those ones who are sitting down doing nothing,” he said.
“They are occupying positions and are not doing any job. We need people who will do quality work.
“We need effective and good to implement government policies so that people will see that political leaders are doing their job.”
