New contracts for 7 to lead agencies

SEVEN heads of government departments and an overseas head of mission signed their new employment contracts at Government House yesterday.
Department of Personnel Management (DPM) secretary Taies Sansan, who also signed her four-year term, told The National that the contracts had key result areas (KRAs) which would be reviewed after 12 months.
Sansan said the eight senior public servants included three from the disciplined forces and three agency heads.
She said all the appointments were made under the current Government except for the head of mission, PNG Ambassador to Japan Moses Kaugl, with a concurrent accreditation to International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO).
“We are all first-time appointees for four years under the performance-based contracts,” Sansan said. “We were all given KRAs to serve in our respective government agencies. After 12 months the KRAs will be assessed, it’s all performance-based.”
Sansan said although the contracts were for four years their performances would be monitored using the annual assessment performance management system currently in place.
“Our department (DPM) coordinates that function,” she said.
Among the senior public servants who signed their employment contracts was National Youth Development Authority (NYDA) director general Joe Itaki.
Sansan said NYDA was an office under the Department of Religion, Youth and Community Development.
