New Ireland govt urged to breathe new life into copra industry

Letters

CAN the New Ireland provincial government consider reviving the copra industry in the province?
It is our oldest and most-resilient crop which is not vulnerable to the effects of climate change.
More than 80 per cent of our rural population still depends on it.
The authorities should look at setting up buying points to buy and export copra.
Better still, get an overseas buyer to buy our copra.
Let us focus on building an agriculture-orientated economic base before taking about autonomy.
