New teachers’ college rises outside Mt Hagen

Highlands

MT Hagen will soon have another teachers college at Keluwa village just outside the city.
The Keluwa Teachers College (KTC) is under construction and expected to enrol students soon.
It will be the second teachers college in Western Highlands, the other is the Catholic Church-run Holy Trinity Teachers College.
Four buildings containing eight classrooms and offices have been completed at the new college.
Keluwa building supervisor Joe Brass said they were working on the fifth classroom and another office. “We will continue to move on and do all the construction work so the college can be ready to receive the first new intakes soon,” he said.
He said the new college would help accommodate the increasing number of students applying to teachers colleges in the country.
“This is a big development for the neighbouring Yamka tribe and it is also a major development for the province,” Keluwa said.
College founder Thomas Kopal could not be reached for comment.
