NSL still on hold

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has extended the suspension of all its activities until June following the PNG Sports Foundation’s (PNGSF) decision to continue a lockdown of its facilities.
PNGSF last week advised federations using its facilities in Port Moresby, Goroka and Lae that the lockdown would be extended for two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
PNGFA secretary Dimirit Mileng said the sport’s national governing body was taking the same approach as the Government and PNGSF in a bid to contain the spread of the virus.
“As individuals, we have a part to play to reduce the spread of the virus,” he said.
“Our daily dealings with others will determine whether we contain or spread the virus.
“PNGFA is mindful that football matches attract crowds, which is discouraged in the prevention of the coronavirus and this has also been advised by the government task force.”
The Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League matches has also remained suspended until the Board can meet to decide the next course of action.
Meanwhile, Mileng encourages everyone to use the five steps recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO) and promoted by Fifa.

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or an alcohol-based solution;
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a bent elbow or tissue when you sneeze or cough;
  • Avoid touching your face, particularly your eyes, nose or mouth to prevent the virus from entering your body;
  • In terms of social interaction, take a step back. Stay at least one metre distance from others; and,
  • If you feel unwell, stay home and follow all instructions provided by your local health authorities.
