TWELVE police officers, who served in the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (Ramsi) between Aug 2003 and June 2017, were awarded medals in Lae on Friday.
The medals were presented by Australian Federal Police Deputy Commissioner Operations (DCO) Neil Gaughan.
Two females and four male officers from the group have retired from the police force over the last few years but were given recognition for their contribution during the mission.
During a parade to commemorate their achievement, the Australian government through its police in PNG presented a 10-seater Toyota Land Cruiser to the Lae Metro Command.
Gaughan said it would not have been a great success if it was not for the efforts of all members of all police agencies across the Pacific working together.
“Their efforts at Ramsi have assisted Solomon Islands communities over the period that these retired and current members of the PNG Royal Constabulary and others have done and it’s a great success,” he said.
Gaughan said Australia was very grateful that PNG had been involved in that mission and thanked the recipients for their contribution.
While handing the keys to the new police vehicle to acting commissioner northern command Peter Guinness, Gaughan said he hoped the gift would help in carrying out community policing effectively.
Guinness, while thanking AFP and the Australian people for their continuous support, said the new vehicle would greatly assist Lae police in its community policing.
