Officers eye Buin for treasurers’ conference

A TEAM of senior officials from the Finance Department in Port Moresby has visited Buin, South Bougainville, in preparation for the national finance and district treasury officers’ conference in June.
Headed by the assistant secretary for New Guinea Islands Finance, Joseph Kunda, the team had meetings with the ABG administration and set up a committee there before moving to Buin on Friday.
Kunda told a meeting of public servants and stakeholders in Buin that the conference was an important event that would bring together 200-300 people and their visit was to find out if Buin had the capacity to host such a big conference.
Provincial finance manager for AROB Malinson Kipau said the conference would be important for Buin and Bougainville to showcase their humbleness.
A committee was established during the meeting with instructions to start planning for the assigned tasks and responsibilities.
The team toured accommodation facilities and Buin Secondary School which would be the venue for the conference. The conference is schedule for the second-term school holidays in June.
