A NEW online news company has entered the Papua New Guinea media industry, presenting yet another challenge to internet access providers for fingertip news.
PNG Edge is headed by one of the country’s renowned journalists, Titi Gabi.
The company is operating out of Port Moresby with a staff of more than 30, including regional correspondents contributing content from towns and centres.
“In the coming months we will work towards expanding our correspondent base as the stories that people would want to know about are out there in towns and district stations, and less of what’s happening in Port Moresby and Waigani for that matter,” Gabi said.
She said the company aimed to promote “public service journalism” bringing across real time stories of human interest to its audience.
“It’s all about customers and how to make access to information quick and more suitable through the use of innovative technology.
‘We need to be on par with the rest of the world and our move is a step towards making information affordable and more convenient, particularly for mobile phone users. You can view our stories online by going to www.pngedge.com,” Gabi said.
“Access to the website does not require smart phones.
“It accessible anywhere in the country where there is mobile coverage and opens up trading opportunities.”
