Over 50 people killed in a tribal fight in Western Highlands, say police

MORE than 50 people have been killed in a tribal fight in Western Highlands, police say.
Two young men were killed two weeks ago, bringing the number of deaths to more than 50.
The fight between the Kimka and the Rolgoka tribes in Dei, which started last March 16 over a coffee plantation, has resulted in hundreds left homeless, lives lost and properties destroyed.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Highlands, Eastern End, Joseph Tondop said this yesterday at Dirty Wara in Dei after working on a peace process to end the fight.
ACP Tondop told the people of the Rolgoka tribe that the fighting needed to stop.
He said he had met with the province’s MPs in Port Moresby last week to help end the fighting and they had promised to support the peace process.
ACP Tondop said he had also held discussions with the leaders from both tribes in Port Moresby and they had agreed to stop the fighting. “This fight has affected many lives and this must not go on like that,” he said.
“We need to work together and end this fight once and for all and make sure normalcy and peace returns so our people here can live a good and normal life.”

  • Are we still in the stone-age? When are we going to change such attitude and use peaceful means to resolve issues?
    Primitive, uncivilised beings will resort to such. We are in the 21st century, the world in which we are a part of has changed. When are we going to grasp these changes and change ourself?

  • So the leaders and their ministers all based in Port Moresby while their tribes men go on a killing spree.
    All of them hide in Port Moresby while their people kill themselves and primitives and nomads.

  • People are so stupid by fighting among themselves over the coffee plantation that benefits the owner only. Not everyone who are fight get any benefit. Why lose your life when you are NOT part of the output of the coffee plantation? Big people who benefit are all in Port Moresby while poor people are dying here because they (poor people ) are stupids.
