Parents told to discipline children

DISCIPLINING children is primarily the responsibility of parents with schools also playing a role, a police officer says.
Rabaul police station commander Insp Neil Weiba said this during the graduation of Rapui Primary School in Malagunan, East New Britain.
Weiba encouraged students to take extra care heading into the festive season.
He told the parents to discipline their children at home so the result could be reflected in school in the way they carry out themselves as well as their behaviour in public.
He warned members of the Rapui community to celebrate Christmas responsibly and did not want to arrest any youth from the area.
He told the students that even minor offences would see perpetrators placed in custody especially during the festive period.
“There will be police operations in this community and other communities during the festive season.
“And we are not here to terrorise you or bash you up.
“But we are kindly asking you to stay in your homes and celebrate and keep out of trouble,” Weiba said.
