POLICE have allocated K10,000 each to provincial police commands including Port Moresby and Lae, to cover fuel and logistics for their festive season operations.
Assistant Police Commissioner Operations Donald Yamasombi told The National yesterday that the operations began this month and would end on Jan 3.
“We now have a police commissioner in office.
“And how we carry out the festive season operations will set the precedence for how we will be carrying out police duties,” he said.
“All provincial police commanders and the two metropolitan superintendents planned their operations in their respective commands.
“And headquarters have supported them with the K10,000 funding and fuel and logistics.
“Our administration has taken steps to ensure that all police vehicles will have fuel to carry out their operations.”
Yamasombi called on police officers to carry out their duties with pride.
“The commissioner of police has already been confirmed so it’s now time to get the house back in order,” he said.
“Let’s ensure that our people have a safe and wonderful festive season.”
He called on the people to respect the law and ensure that they celebrated Christmas on the “right side of the law”.
“Celebrate Christmas with the right message and in the right way,” he said.
Yamasombi also clarified that all provincial commanders will make their own decisions on whether to impose liquor bans.
“It depends on the situation in each province and that includes Port Moresby and Lae as well,” he said.
