A Nazarene pastor was given an international church award for his sacrifices to assist helpless and vulnerable youths for more than 20 years.
Melanesian Nazarene Bible College principal Rev Jacob Uri received the Nazarene International Timothy Award for Youths from the headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, United States.
The award was presented to him last Wednesday during the 10th Melanesian Youth Congress at the University of Technology in Lae, Morobe.
The Timothy Award was established in 1995 by the Nazarene Youth International (NYI) general council to recognise outstanding service, sacrifice and personal commitment to youths at the local, district, regional, or general level in a tangible way.
Uri was awarded for initiating the youth ministry and developing youths through youth programmes.
He has been involved in church youth programmes since 1989 when he was the Western Highlands’ district president, then Nazarene youth president of PNG.
Humbled, Uri said he did not deserve the award but other church members had recommended him to the world church body.
