A UNITED church pastor in New Ireland is set to return to his native Southern Highlands after giving 33 years of service to the province.
Ps Issac Kopeso arrived in New Ireland since 1989 and worked at the Poliamba United church in the Tikana local level government of Kavieng.
He worked alongside Ps Stanley Lavoi, who is currently regional bishop of New Ireland.
Ps Kopeso’s farewell was held at the Ligga United church on Nov 21.
Bishop Rev Lavoi and four divisional superintendent ministers Rev Bulu Annis (Namatanai), Rev Joe Warping (Kimandan), Rev John Waip (Kavieng) and Rev Wesley Aron (New Hanover) prayed over him.
Ps Kopeso said he had left his family following God’s call and moved to a new environment which he held dear but had to return to reunite with his family and relatives.
“I can remember the time when I first entered the church and everyone welcomed me, the Christians were new members of my family, it created an impact in my life,” he said.
“According to the Word of God, man (may) plan, but God has the final answer.
“We know that everything works for the good of those who love Him.
“It has been a good period together, as a happy man fulling my call in preparing weekly sermons, preaching and conducting worship services and providing care and counselling to church members has come to an end, it is time I return home.”
Rev Lavoi thanked Kopeso for his service and commitment to the people of New Ireland and hoped he was living satisfied that he had contributed meaningfully to the church’s work.
