People support govt on its performance

Letters

THE overwhelming support demonstrated on the floor of Parliament by MPs in returning O’Neill as the Prime Minister in the vote of no confidence is a strong signal to the global community, businesses and investors that political stability is far more important than petty politics.
O’Neill is well respected because he has performed beyond expectations and thanks to Parliament for retaining him to finish his full term.
Everybody has a right to speak out without fear and favour on any civil issues including being critical on government performance.
O’Neill has received his share of criticism but regrettably most of these critics came from emotional junk yard.
Opposition MPs have made themselves look stupid in the eyes of the public by not telling the nation one single policy alternative in the wake of the vote of no confidence.
Their mud-slinging and childish politics have made them look like common people and not leaders. They must do much better if they are to be serious contenders for alternative government because O’Neill has set a very high benchmark.
Even past ministers’ performance can only be equated in context to the present success.
The country has a lot of confidence in O’Neill and his Government because they have changed the country’s political landscape by creating the paradigm shift.
Investors’ confidence in PNG is soaring after the failed vote of no confidence in O’Neill and this is a very good sign to our economy.
In the interest of political stability it is prudent to return the O’Neill Government in 2017 and let’s all work together and support the Government.
We have played enough politics and it is about time we stop and reflect on how far we came and what we need to do for greater success.
In the short time O’Neill took power as Prime Minister, he has expanded the economy substantially and improved the Government financial structures.
Despite many setbacks as a result of prevailing complacency in our public service system that deny many government policies from effective administration, management and execution, it will continue to improve on the back of a better government.
And political stability will underpin this success.
The tension has now subsided and the country has now realsed who were the culprits that instigated the civil unrest.
The barbaric nature of certain students at the universities which resulted in destruction of properties, loss of life and disruption of academic year shows the lack of leadership demonstrated by the instigators.
Such leadership is not only dangerous for the country but shows how irresponsible leadership can destroy the fabric of progressive democracy.
Finally, I wish to thank the six MPs of Chimbu who  supported O’Neill in retaining his position as Prime Minister.
What you have demonstrated is appreciated by the people of Chimbu who believe in O’Neill.
Their support will continue in 2017 and beyond.
