PM challenges Opposition to reveal corruption

PRIME Minister James Marape has challenged Opposition MPs to tell the nation any corruption issue he has been involved in since being in power.
He was responding to the naming of Aitape-Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch as the Opposition’s choice of prime minister should a motion of no confidence against him is successful.
“I ask the Opposition to show one instance of corruption that I have been involved in over the last 18 months that I have been in office,” he said.
“Just one. I ask the nine ministers who have left me to show the country one example of corruption. (Tell) the country one serious constitutional breach I have been involved in.”
He still believes he has the numbers on his side to defeat the motion should it come before the House.
Meanwhile, Pruaitch warned the Government that “pulling at the heart strings of our people has seen no tangible outcomes”. “There would not have been any (political) movement (now) if the majority of my fellow MPs truly believe that Marape was leading the country to prosperity, where no child is left behind and taking PNG back really meant taking PNG forward,” Pruaitch said.
“We believe that this Government has been pulling at the heart strings of our people for too long with no tangible outcomes. This must stop.
“We who have the power to do something about it cannot remain idle while families are struggling to send their children to school, find proper health facilities for their loved ones, have roads and bridges to take them to markets to sell their produce.
“Instead, this Government has milked the Covid-19 pandemic by not only borrowing irresponsibly but also funding foolish projects with little to no impact on our health or economic sector.”
