THE Port Moresby Soccer Association ended week five of its season at the Telikom Football Park (Bisini) last weekend with teams picking up momentum in the competition.
Competition director Peter Matthew told The National on Sunday that the premier division had been more competitive this season compared with last year.
“Our premier division is doing quite well with the competition returning to its peak where clubs want to improve their position on the ladder,” he said.
“It’s becoming a very competitive season especially for the premier division.
“For the lower divisions, they are teams still trying to make their way up, maintain their fitness levels. We’ve included the third division this year. We will run the competition in two rounds across 18 weeks – nine weeks for the first round and another nine for the second.
“We should end the season by October.”
Matthew said Telikom Limited had partnered the competition as the major sponsor.
The sponsorship is worth more than K55,000 which includes K10,000 in cash. “Telikom’s player of the match prizes has pushed players to perform better,” Matthew said.
“I’m appealing to the 42 clubs to submit their master lists, bio-data and profiles.
“Those who haven’t paid their registration and affiliation fees, have to do so before the end of the first round”.
