PNG fortunate to maintain democracy

Letters

I REFER to the article ‘Is PNG a fragile state’ in The Fiji Times on March 3.
It might be fragile but its democracy has survived almost half a century without any military coup.
Papua New Guineans can be proud of that.
Notwithstanding its flaws and complex challenges, it has upheld democratic governance since Independence in 1975.
Some in our region and beyond repeatedly failed to do that at great costs to their country and people.
PNG has not gone down that regressive path. Hope it never does.
