THREE PNG Ports Corporation Limited (PNG Ports) staff recently graduated from the Divine Word University (DWU), Port Moresby campus.
The trio were recipients of the tuition fee support from PNG Ports’ Corporate Sponsorship Scheme, which is designed to assist staff with full or partial financial assistance for undergraduate and post graduate studies at any recognised tertiary institution in PNG or abroad.
Tobias Goimba, employed as team leader for standards and licensing in PNG Ports’ Maritime Compliance Division graduated with a master’s degree in business administration, along with two female staff from the Motukea port operations team, Stella Manau and Molong Kilol, both attaining a diploma in business studies.
The sponsorship programme aims to encourage personnel development, improve job-related skills and the empowerment of staff.
The scope covers enrolment, registration and tuition fees, travel, boarding and lodging fees and other study requirements.
PNG Ports officer-in-charge, Ian Hayden-Smart, during the congratulatory ceremony commended the three staff for achieving excellence in their studies while remaining dedicated to work.
“It is no easy feat to achieve, working full time, managing your families and committing to your studies, and this is a great example for many of us,” Hayden-Smart said.
“This initiative that the organisation drives, demonstrates how much PNG Ports values a culture of growth and that it will continue to invest in its staff through career development opportunities, to meet the ever-changing business demands in turn, ensuring the company has the capacity to see continued success and further contribute to up-skilling and developing the workforce in country.”
