A PAPUA New Guinea student in Cebu, Philippines, has participated in an inter-school pageant.

Johanan Oda, 19, was chosen to represent the University of Southern Philippines Foundation in the Mr and Ms PICE 2014.

The pageant is organised by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers.

He was among the 14 participants from seven universities and the only foreign student in the competition.

“I never thought of joining a pageant, especially in a foreign country,” Oda said.

“But the trust of my professors and colleagues in me, although I am new to their institution, inspired me.”

“I am so thankful to my parents for giving me this chance to study overseas. Everything I go through here is for them.”

He completed Grade 12 at the Port Moresby Grammar School.

Oda and 420 other PNG students in the Philippines are administered under Paradise International Education Consultancy.
